About GarageDoorMatch

GarageDoorMatch (garagedoormatchusa.com) is a referral service for homeowners with a garage door problem. You tell us what the door is doing and the ZIP code, and we pass the request to one independent garage door company that has asked to receive work there.

What we are, and what we are not

We are not a garage door company: we employ no technicians, install and repair nothing, set no prices and answer for no one's work. We do not claim that any company we send a request to is licensed, registered, insured or bonded, so ask it, and check what it tells you, before the work starts.

The whole business model is that the company receiving your request pays us for it, and the how it works page walks through the details.

Why we open one state at a time

Garage door rules are mostly local. A city's building department decides whether a job needs a permit, the local building department decides the wind load a door must meet, and whether the trade needs a license is a question each state answers for itself. A page that gets one of those wrong costs a reader money or puts them at risk, so we write one state carefully before the next. Michigan live now, more states opening.

The city pages use U.S. Census data for housing age and home value, plus each city's own permit office and pages where we could find them. A page says so when the search came up empty.

Why the cost figures say estimate

Our cost figures are modeled estimates, not collected prices. Each is built from published national ranges and adjusted with federal wage data for the nearest trade in the state a page covers, and none is a price list or a quote. The editorial policy explains how the estimates are built, how a company's own published price is shown when we find one, and what we will add once we have collected more company prices.

Editorial standards

Every guide lists its sources, and a fact we could not source is left out. Rules about permits and codes change, so check with your local building department before relying on any summary here. Read the editorial policy, and tell us if you find a mistake.
